Ask Abby: How do you feel about a "No Ring, No Bring" Policy?

A recent trend among weddings to prevent your guests from bringing plus ones when you're trying to keep your budget down is a "No Ring, No Bring" policy. What that means is if the guest invited is engaged, they're allowed a plus one, but if they are not, then they don't get one. You can adjust this as you see necessary for certain guests, but this way, your third cousin won't be bringing the girl he's been on two dates with! What are your thoughts on how to keep the plus ones down?
