Wedding Wednesday: Dana & Robert

11/20/2015  |  The Crosby Club

From the photographer: "I think this is one of my all-time favorite weddings out of my 6 years and over a hundred weddings photographed! Dana & Rob looked like a couple of celebrities celebrating on their Wedding Day. They were married on a California hillside outside of San Diego. The Weather was perfect, of course; it is California! Dana & Rob met after Dana graduated from College at Harvard and she met Rob in Boston. Rob was working towards becoming a Doctor. Rob is from Australia, and that Australian accent, smart mind, and handsome face was enough to win Dana over. They moved to Australia together for Rob to complete Medical School, but they came back to Dana's home in California for the Wedding. They did include an Australian Wedding cake for Rob and his family to keep with the Australian tradition. American Wedding cakes put it to shame if I say so myself. ;) Dana kept things simple, but oh so classy! I loved her flowers, especially over the arch during the ceremony. When Dana walked out for ceremony with that low back sexy Wedding dress, I think everyone (Especially Rob) had to pick their jaws up off the floor. Like Dana and Rob, the Wedding was the whole package. ?The cocktail hour had outside games, great wine, and romantic lighting. The Reception had great food and romantic moments, until the fun started and time flew by as everyone, Australian and American, danced the night away."

Right in the Feels: Woman’s touching message explains how to make a marriage work

Tanna C. Photography
A lot of things in life take a lot of hard work, day in and day out. And through that hard work we learn what works and what doesn’t, but people always want to try and cut the learning curve and boil everything down to the secrets of success.
Nikki Pennington kept getting asked what was the secret to a successful marriage, since she’s been in one for 13 years with her husband, Jer.
Many people probably assumed she’d give an answer like “say ‘I love you’ before you leave each other each day” or “give each other a kiss good night before going to bed.” But in reality, Nikki boiled it down to a single lesson–that it takes hard work every single day to make a marriage go.

Her message, which has since gone viral, was shared on her Facebook page. This is what it reads:
“Jer and I have been together since we were teenagers. After thirteen years of being together and eleven years of marriage I’ve had people ask me, ‘So, what’s the secret to a successful marriage?’
I usually laugh
I know the typical responses from the “Don’t go to bed angry” or the “Always say I love you when they leave”
You guys, do you know how many times in eleven years Jer has taken residency on the couch prior to us having kids because we were mad? Do you know how many times he’s left without us saying ‘I love you’ because kids and life. His way of saying ‘I love you’ some mornings is letting me sleep in when he leaves and everyone is still asleep
All the ‘secrets’ we’ve broken them”

(continued)
“The secret to a long lasting marriage is there is no secret at all
It’s a get up and try again over and over every damn day. It’s hanging on tight when you are young, newly married and living on frozen dinners because it’s all you can afford. It’s staying up all night in tears with your first newborn child because you both are over tired, overwhelmed and scared to death but you are in it together. It’s counting pennies when you are young so that you can build a life together for your future family. It’s about knowing that nothing is going to turn out perfect, that your marriage won’t be a highlight reel because that’s not real life. It’s about being deep in the trenches of so many obstacles that life could throw you and getting to look over and know that you aren’t alone and that your best friend is walking it with you. It’s about knowing that you can never be prepared for the burdens you might have to help your partner carry but you do know you are willing to be there when they need rest from the burden.
Just try every single day, in the trenches and on top of the mountains don’t ever stop. Because stopping, that’s one thing that isn’t a secret, it will make you fail”
If the person you’re with is worth it, you better work hard to make it work.
That’s love for ya!
