Designer Spotlight

Jaime Elyse

at ElyseREUBEN Bridal

One need not look far to find fabulous original couture lines in the San Diego, as evidenced by Jaime Elyse’s stunning designs at ElyseREUBEN Bridal.

When creating her designs, Elyse focuses less on a signature look and more on the needs and desires of her brides. “I would say one of my biggest influences in my designs is my clients—creating a label that not only represents me as a designer but bringing fashion forward designs while embracing the beauty of the female shape,” she says.

Elyse also sees lace as being a popular upcoming trend among brides. She also believes strapless is losing a bit of steam—both of these trends likely brought about thanks to Princess Catherine. “I have seen a big push for lace in the last two months. The gowns on our site with a full lace overlay seem to be getting most of the attention and I think that a big part of that trend has to do with the simplistic elegance of Princess Kate’s gown.

“Additionally, delicately capped lace sleeves that are unlined, again giving depth to the lace with the skin color peaking through are gaining in popularity. I see many brides that are looking for something more than a strapless gown,” she says.

In addition, Elyse predicts the 2-in-1 gown trend will continue. “We have many brides that are choosing to have 2 in 1 gowns, with either a detachable layered skirt where the bottom half of the gown snaps off to reveal either a playful knee length or a daring cocktail ending at mid thigh. Another option would be a short gown with a ball gown skirt over the top that is removed after the ceremony.”
Finally, Elyse forecasts that the vintage chic look isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. “Another trend is still vintage romance,” she says. “We construct far more cream and champagne gowns compared to white.”
