Ask Abby: Who cuts the cake?
Cake by Elegance on Display
When hosting a backyard wedding, while you still can order a wedding cake from any one of the amazing bakeries in San Diego, there comes the task of cutting the cake. If the bakery does not have someone they can spare to cut your cake, you can pass this task off to a bridesmaid or groomsman. Your bridal party is there to help so make sure to take advantage of this! You can also use a family member as a backup, just make sure to have an assigned person so everyone can have their cake and eat it too!

Wedding Wednesday: Katie & John
3/26/2016 | La Jolla Woman’s Club
Both John and Katie knew of the San Diego Woman's Club from the periodic tango dances that are held there. They wanted a garden setting, but given the possibility of El Nino rain decided an indoor venue would be better. Katie had already selected a dress in an early mid-Century style, and it turns out the Woman's Club was built in 1948. A theme was born! Although it looks more dated in broad daylight, the venue has what they were looking for in terms of a large, beautiful dance floor, space for 200 guests, an accessible location, and that tango connection. In the evening light, they envision the ambiance of an elegant late 40's/early 50's dinner and dance club.

Wedding Wednesday: Shelby & Luke
9/5/2015 | San Diego Zoo Safari Park

With an adorably in-love
couple, and THIS backdrop, the result is stunning!Shelby is a Navy
helicopter pilot, and Luke is an Air Force Contracting Officer. They met
back in day, when Luke did an exchange semester to the United States
Naval Academy, where Shelby just so happened to be. They soon fell in
love! He proposed on New Years on the pier by their favorite restaurant
in Pensacola, FL, where they were both living at the time. She obviously
said yes, which led to this dream wedding at the San Diego Zoo Safari
Park! They are both very laid back people, as well as outgoing, fun, and
share a love of exploring and traveling! Their wedding theme carried
that hobby of theirs, with a globe to sign, replacing the guest book.
Each guest also had little suitcase travel tags as their seat placers
for the reception. Their ceremony was held at the African Plains
Overlook, which literally was over looking the waterhole of the safari’s
large enclosure, filled with giraffes, water buffalo, rhinos, and many
more exotic animals from Africa. As the sun went down, the lions started
to roar as guests headed to the reception to dance the night away! What
a fun experience!! Congratulations to these two lovebirds, who
seriously giggled with excitement every time they looked over at each
other.

Spousal Saturday: Goldie & Aksel
5/15/2016 | Temecula Creek Inn
When Goldie and Michelle Garibay first started discussing her vision, her favorite store, Anthropologie, was the first word she used to describe her style. Eclectic, romantic, bright, bold colors and a touch of Moroccan flair were all represented in this wedding design. As a designer for Bassett, the overall design and decor was THE most important thing to Goldie, and she and Michelle spent the majority of their time meticulously selecting the perfect fit creatives for their big day, along with her father who was very involved in the planning process. They wanted their wedding to be a true representation of who they were as a couple: well-traveled, approachable elegance and a large focus on food and beverage. They both had meticulous attention to detail in regards to their guest experience from the Keffiyehs (Middle Eastern head scarf) and flower market as gifts for the ladies and cigar bar for the men to the custom Guava-Collins signature cocktail as a nod to their favorite restaurant in Cabo San Lucas. This wedding definitely required Michelle to flex her creative muscles and she was thrilled with how everything came together all down to the matching embossing on the cake and invitation suite. And because the decor was so important, Michelle even arranged for Goldie and her father to have a sneak peek of everything before guest arrival!
