Dessert of the Week: Petal Pushers

An abundance of orchids dresses up an otherwise simple design. Plus how cute is the lifelike bride and groom cake topper?

Wedding Wednesday: Jessica & Davey

5/31/2015  | Hilton Torrey Pines

Jessica and Davey's wedding was a Big Fat Mexican and South African Jewish wedding. All 3 of those cultures and traditions together made for one BIG party! Knowing they were going to have such a big wedding, they wanted to make sure to include details throughout the wedding that would make the wedding personal and mean something to every guest. For starters, it was not a wedding day-they made a wedding weekend! They had events that started on Friday morning and went all the way until the Monday "Hangover brunch" the day after the wedding. The couple also wanted to make sure that the wedding showed both of their outgoing personalities. Some of the things they did: -They had a cute thank you note in every plate -They had huge frames in which we made collages of photos with all of their friends and family so they could find themselves in there -They framed the email that they were introduced by -Their guest book was a piece of wood that everyone would sign -They had an entrance where each of the immediate family members came in dancing to the song of their choice -The father-daughter dance was played live and it was a song in Spanish that the father of the bride wrote for her when she was born -There were t-shirts made for the groom and all the men for the horah, so they could sweat those and then put their nice shirt back on -They gave out slippers with their initials on them so that people could put them on when they were tired of dancing -Instead of a wedding cake they had a "make your own ice cream sandwich bar" -They had a huge "junk bar" which is a candy bar with all Mexican fruit/vegetables/candy -Instead of a photo booth, they had a VW bus come in, and people would take their photo in there The pictures can tell the story better!

Ask Abby: A How To Write Your Own Vows

We've been going back and forth on writing our own vows. Any tips or tricks you suggest?

Photo from Studio Del Mar

Choosing to write your own vows can be an exciting choice! Even if you're not good with your words, with time and effort, your vows can be beautiful! Below are some tips to help you write your vows.

1) Allow enough time!! Do not wait until the night before to write your vows! Make sure to allow plenty of time to get out all of your thoughts and feelings onto paper and then time to fine tune them.

2) Do some research. Take time to look up ideas for vows and think about things you want to include so you can piece your vows together.

3) Let it soak in. Take some time to reflect on what all you've written and make sure you've conveyed all that you want to. You only get one chance to say these to your fiance in front of your family and friends but you have time to edit them and make sure they are perfect.

4) Practice makes perfect! You don't have to have memorize your vows but definitely practice them so you can sound like you have it together on your wedding day!

Wedding Wednesday: Marlina & Richard

10/11/2014  |  Bahia Resort Hotel

If you are planning two wedding ceremonies and a reception for one day, you definitely want your couple to be as sweet and easy-going as Marlina and Richard. This gorgeous couple wanted a traditional Cambodian wedding ceremony to honor the bride’s heritage as well as a Christian ceremony. The day started with the Cambodian ceremony. The couple looked like royalty in their colorful and detailed silk clothing. In the Cambodian tradition, the groom processed with his family and friends to meet his bride with an offering of platters of fruits and desserts. Once the offering was accepted by the bride and her family, the ceremony continued with a ring exchange, multiple blessings and music. There were multiple outfit changes, each more elaborate and beautiful than the next. After the Cambodian wedding ceremony, the couple began preparing for their Christian ceremony to take place at the pond and gazebo at the Bahia Resort. The ceremony included a unity sand ceremony along with the traditional vows and exchange of rings. The couple’s adorable dog served as ring bearer. The wedding day ended with a dinner reception aboard the William D. Evans stern-wheeler. Guests enjoyed the amazing views as the boat sailed along the Bay and danced well into the night.

Wedding Wednesday: Sarah & Corey

9/13/2014  |  Villa V Del Mar

September wedding at a friends home in Del Mar/Rancho Santa Fe. We wanted a casual fun wedding where we could celebrate with our family and friends. Theme was neutral colors with lots of greenery and flowers. We opted to rent our friends home for 3 nights and host family and friends at the wedding. All the wedding events were at the home including a intimate family dinner, rehearsal and ceremony reception. We had a whisky/cigar bar as these are both favs of the bride and groom. The bride wore sandals and a beautiful flower crown made of white berries. Tables were adorned with long greenery swags with open natural flowers.

Endearing Engagments: Kayela & Ryan

Kayela & Ryan's themed engagement session was centered around their love for each other and the water. With all of the bohemian vibes in the fashion industry, the team decided to add a little of that flare to their session. They found a gorgeous little nook at Windansea Beach in La Jolla, CA and set up. The set up included a full picnic with large pillows for seating, champagne and a lovely cake from Asa's Cakes. Florals for the bouquet and floral crown were hand selected from Wholesale Flowers San Diego and arranged by Born Beautiful Photography. All tableware and stemware were either vintage pieces hand picked from local antique shops mixed with new items from HomeGoods.Their  favorite part about this unique session was the people passing by and their comments about the whole thing. They had a few ladies say, "If someone did this for me, I'd elope right away!". This session was perfect for this couple, but can easily be achieved for the future bride and groom on a budget or for a fella who is looking to pop the question to the love of his life!
