Mangia Monday: Stuffed Food

There's something incredibly mouthwatering about stuffed foods.  These dishes look exceptionally elegant when placed on a plate, making it the perfect food for your special event.  The variety in textures, colors, and types of foods inside these flavorful plates sparks a certain curiosity and intrigue. Each bite has a surprise within it that may make your palette drift from liking traditional combinations and move on towards new discoveries in pairing foods!  Meats and vegetables alike can be stuffed with unexpected flavors, giving the dish an added dimension. For a culturally-inspired variety of ideas, we are loving this list of stuffed appetizers and sides from Saveur.

Fashion Friday: Colorful Wedding Gowns

We couldn't help but notice that amongst all the white wedding gowns on the designer runways, were unexpected pops of color.  A wedding gown that is not the traditional white or ivory is certainly an unusual idea, but in fact some of these dresses were absolutely stunning without surrendering the elegance of a bridal gown.  Although it would be a very daring option, a colored gown has elevated in popularity especially in a second marriage, for example.  Some of the gowns had subtle colors, like a more yellow ivory or even blush - while others stood out in eye-catching pink or red.  While a colored wedding gown is not for everyone, we can always gain inspiration from the bridal designers, and maybe incorporate color in beading or jewelry!

Style Inspiration: Horses and Weddings

This fall, we are inspired by wedding pictures involving horses! These country weddings look quite elegant with the addition of carefully placed flowers or the right color combinations. The sun setting on an early autumn night has a warm glow that is perfect for this time of year.  Horses of any color are strikingly beautiful in wedding pictures - we especially like the contrast of a dark horse against a white wedding gown. What girl wouldn't want to ride away on a horse for her wedding day?

Wedding Wednesday: Shalyn & Austin Waits

Shalyn and Austin met on a family camping trip when they were just fifteen years old. Ten years later, after breaking up, moving schools, growing up, and getting jobs, the two reconnected over MySpace out of the blue when Shalyn happened to be talking about her high school sweetheart with a friend at work.  Austin then used the opportunity at a friend's wedding in Hawaii to make Shalyn his fiancé. He had asked everyone's permission to do so and had gotten their blessing and encouragement. Their wedding theme was Fire and Ice, and the contrasting details came together for a beautiful ceremony and reception that reflected the bride and groom so perfectly.

Advice from Shalyn & Austin Waits
Put a basket of quick fixes in the restrooms with things like safety pins, band-aids, hair pins, etc. You'd hate for a guest to leave because of something that could have been remedied with something as simple as a safety pin.

Stylish Details began when a wedding photographer from Chicago met a fashion stylist from Orange County. Tricia Meteer and Sophie Mae have been friends for years, but it wasn't until Tricia photographed Sophie's wedding day that the idea Stylish Details was born. They realized that there weren't any companies currently offering the talents of an award-winning photographer and the eye of an expert fashion stylist and event planner.

Stylish Details is the very first all-inclusive wedding styling, planning, and photography concept for the modern bride and groom. Their team has grown from two to six in the last year and now provides vintage prop rentals and wedding videography.

Their team offers full, partial, and day-of wedding planning to suit each couple's unique needs. Each wedding package includes a bridal style consultation by Sophie Mae and even planning by Melanie Lee.

Why wedding and event planning? What about your career makes it worthwhile each day?
We always say that we have the best jobs in the world and it's really true! We have the pleasure of being a part of the most important day in a couple's life, their wedding day. It's really rewarding to see your hard work pay off when the big day arrives and it's truly amazing when you get to see the incredible images after the wedding. There's really nothing quite like it.

If you weren't in the wedding and event industry, what would you be doing?
That's a tough one! We are all very passionate about what we do, so it's very hard to imagine doing anything else. Maybe we would be zoo keepers... because we all adore animals!

What's your favorite part/ moment of the wedding and why?
There's nothing quite like seeing the look on a groom's face when he sees his bride for the first time. It's as if time stops and in that moment, all stress and anxiety that might have occurred before the wedding just disappears. That one look makes everything worthwhile.

How would you describe the Stylish Details experience?
If we could describe Stylish Details in two words they would be "all-inclusive". Our goal is to provide our couples with everything they need to create the wedding day of their dreams. We do this by offering complete wedding styling and planning, breathtaking photography, vintage prop rentals, and videography.

Name one thing that sets Stylish Details apart from its competitors:
Stylish Details is unique because we come with a complete "wedding entourage", comprised of a wedding and prop stylist, event planner, photographer and videographer. Though all of our services can be purchased individually, we love that our couples can think of us as a one-stop shop for all their wedding needs.

What is one important piece of advice you would like to share with brides?
My biggest piece of advice for newly engaged brides is to never underestimate the importance of a wedding planner. Many venues include an "on-site coordinator", but they should never take the place of an expert planner. A great wedding planner will help you with everything you need to be stress-free on your big day, while a venue coordinator just oversees the venue itself.

Another tip is to enjoy every moment of your wedding. The day flies by so quickly, so it's important to cherish every moment!

Mangia Monday: Fall Ravioli

It's officially September (and not quite officially fall) but we couldn't help but get excited with some delicious autumn-specific recipes.  Autumn is one of those seasons that has a particular flavor in food, and in our opinion, it is a particularly tasty flavor.  Even though in San Diego we don't quite get the full-effect of fall like many other parts of the country, serving a dish that incorporates the feelings of changing leaves, cooler days, and sitting-by-the-fireplace-warmth surely makes it feel pretty close.  We found two fresh ravioli recipes that use fall flavors with sage, pumpkin, beets, and walnuts - and even a tutorial on how to make the fresh pasta (which tastes incredible) on this cool Australian-based food blog.
